How to request a correction

Please include:
- The headline and the URL.
- The sentence or figure you believe is wrong.
- What the correct position is.
- The evidence, ideally a primary document, a dataset or a named authority.
We aim to acknowledge every correction request within two working days, and to resolve it within five working days. Where a claim takes longer to verify, we say so and keep you informed.
What happens next
- The accountable editor for the piece reviews the request against the original sourcing.
- If the piece is wrong, it is corrected and the correction is disclosed on the page.
- If the piece is right, we explain why and point to the evidence.
- If the piece is unclear rather than wrong, it is clarified and the clarification is disclosed.
How corrections appear
Every corrected article carries a dated note at the foot of the piece stating what was wrong and what it now says. The original error is described, so the record shows what changed. Corrections are never made silently.
Categories used:
- Correction. A material fact was wrong. The text is fixed and the change is described.
- Clarification. The facts were right and the wording invited a wrong reading. The wording is improved and the change is described.
- Update. New information has moved the story on. The addition is dated.
- Retraction. The central claim of the piece does not stand. The piece is marked as retracted, kept online with its correction note, and removed from the front page and the feeds.
Headlines, social posts and feeds
Where an error appeared in a headline, in an email or in a post on X, the correction is issued in that channel too. Deleting a wrong post without a correction is not a correction.
Unpublishing
Sox News keeps its record online. Articles are removed only where there is a legal obligation, a serious risk of harm to a person, or an error so fundamental that a retraction note cannot cure it. Where a piece is removed, the URL keeps a note explaining that it was removed and when.
