Canada's Bill C-38, introduced by Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne, would keep federal excise tax at zero on gasoline, diesel and aviation fuels through January 31, 2027, then halve the regular rates through March 31. The government estimates the extension adds C$2.9 billion in relief, taking total 2026-27 relief to C$5.3 billion. A typical 50-litre gasoline fill-up saves more than C$5 while full relief applies.

Parliament's LEGISinfo lists the Canadian Fuel Affordability Act at second reading after first reading on September 21. iPolitics reports MPs began the opening review on Tuesday. The full rates are scheduled to return on April 1, 2027.
