The Reserve Bank of Australia's Monetary Policy Board unanimously raised the cash rate target by 25 basis points to 4.60 per cent on 29 September, its fourth increase of 2026. The rate is at a 15-year high.

The board said global energy prices were much higher than assumed in its August forecasts after further disruptions to oil supply. It said elevated inflation and higher fuel prices justified the move.

The statement also says earlier increases had tightened financial conditions and the economy appeared to be slowing. The RBA left open further increases if needed to bring inflation sustainably back to target.
